Before he ever designed a single piece of furniture, Willy Rizzo spent two decades as one of the twentieth century’s great portrait photographers, training his lens on Audrey Hepburn, Salvador Dalí and the gilded set of 1950s and ’60s Europe. The Brass Bookcase channels that same eye for glamour into three dimensions — a Modernist object built with the confidence of a man who knew exactly how light should fall on a subject.
Polished brass gives this bookcase a warmer register than its steel counterpart, its brackets finished in smoked glass for a touch of period glamour. Signed and numbered, it reflects Rizzo’s eye for materials that age beautifully — the same instinct that made his Tivoli-produced pieces, from bronze lamps to travertine tables, lasting fixtures in the permanent collection of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.
