Checkmate Lamp by Garance Vallée

Garcé & Dimofski, founded by Olivier Garcé and Clio Dimofski in Lisbon, is both a design studio and a gallery devoted to a singular, material-driven language. Every piece channels their belief in a quiet strength that transcends trends: raw chestnut, hand-glazed ceramic and terracotta, worked by local Portuguese artisans into forms that feel both ancient and entirely new.

For the Checkmate lamp, sculptor Garance Vallée joined forces with Garcé & Dimofski Gallery to hand-carve a base in raw wood and pair it with a matte white ceramic body, the contrast between rough, untreated timber and soft, chalky glaze doing most of the talking. It is a small, sculptural object as much as a working lamp, made to be handled and to sit somewhere it can be looked at closely.
