Electra Candelabra

Cast in bronze using the lost-wax technique, the Electra Candelabra translates a motif Allegra Hicks returns to often — the rope, coiled and knotted as if caught mid-movement — into a solid, sculptural object. The technique demands a model built for one-time sacrifice: wax carved with the illusion of pliancy, then invested and burned away so metal can claim its exact form, down to the texture of woven fibre. It is a fitting method for a designer who trained in fresco and has never quite let go of watercolour’s fluidity, carrying that same sense of movement across rugs, tapestries and now cast metalwork. Handmade in Italy, the piece holds its own on a dining table or console, bronze warming under candlelight rather than competing with it.
