The top follows four soft lobes with deeply curved sides between them, edged by a doubled rattan cane bent to follow every turn. Within that rim, straight rods are laid side by side across the surface, their nodes and darker markings left visible, so the top has the slightly ridged texture of a woven seat. Shaping a closed loop with such tight inward curves is the hardest part of the work: the cane is heated until pliable, then bent and fixed as it cools, with small pins holding it in place along the rim. Below, the base is a single block clad in vertical rods, which gives it the look of a fluted column and keeps the silhouette compact. Its low height suits a deep armchair such as Laclaux’s Sunset, a bedside or a reading corner.
