Puddle Coffee Table

The tabletop’s asymmetric, pebble-like outline is closer to a stone worn smooth by water than to a conventional oval or rectangle, and its glaze carries a fine, all-over crackle, a technique where the glaze and clay body cool at different rates, fracturing the surface into a network of hairline cracks that catch light differently across the top. Beneath it, five slender legs taper from wide, root-like feet, their bark-textured surface a clear relation to the Holt candlesticks elsewhere in O’Sullivan’s work, joined low by thin cross-stretchers that read as branches rather than structural bracing. The legs are cast rather than machined, allowing the irregular, wood-grain ridging to vary slightly from one to the next. Puddle sits low and asymmetrically grounded, suited to a lounge or garden room setting where its organic silhouette can stand apart from the rectilinear furniture typically surrounding a seating group.
