A split pomegranate sits in the lower corner of Laclaux’s Rotin & Fleurs Dinner Plate, painted with the precision of a botanical illustration. Its skin shifts from coral to pale ochre, the crown picked out in fine strokes, while a few loose arils scatter across the white porcelain towards the centre. The border follows a more geometric logic. Two painted canes frame a row of short woven segments, curving inward at four points to form a cartouche reminiscent of the edge of a cane tray. At Arcanie, floral and geometric motifs are assigned to different specialists, so the pomegranate and the border are painted by separate hands. Across the service, lemons, magnolias and other blooms appear alongside the pomegranate, giving each place setting its own subtle variation.
